Arsene Wenger Personally Working On Deal To Sign £40m World Cup Ace

Arsene Wenger is adding a personal touch to his pursuit of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, according to reports in Spain. The report states that Madrid would be willing to sell the striker for the right price.

At 26, there is a chance for Karim Benzema to reach his peak in the coming years. He’s certainly been impressive throughout his career, but there was once a thought that he was destined for bigger things than he has shown so far. Arsene Wenger has always been a fan of him and tried to sign him when he was at Lyon.

£40million would probably be enough to convince Madrid to sell, and that would represent a fairly good deal considering he is one of the best strikers around, and just 26. His pace, intelligence and strength make him perfectly suited to Arsenal’s system.

The report suggests Arsene Wenger telephoned Karim Benzema to talk about Arsenal’s project, but it does say ‘according to French reports’. They also suggest Olivier Giroud discussed the possibility with the player at the World Cup.

Benzema is a quality player, but with Welbeck signed and Giroud returning in January – do Arsenal need another striker? There’s no doubt he is better player than both Arsenal forwards and he would be an excellent signing for me. If he becomes available, we’d be stupid not to sign him.
