Arsenal Step Up Efforts To Sign £30million Midfielder

Last week we brought you the news that Arsenal had tabled a €30million bid for William Carvalho according to OJogo in Portugal. The report stated that the bid was rejected as Lisbon wanted closer to his €45million (£35million) release clause. Now reports in Record say that the player has been put on the market as Lisbon are looking to raise funds.

The report suggests that recently interest in the midfielder has intensified, and it would tie in with the fact that the Gunners are more actively searching for a new midfield recruit now. A move for Khedira appears to have broken down over wage demands, and Arsenal are exploring alternative options. But with Lars Bender happy to stay in the German league and Morgan Schneiderlin seemingly on his way to Tottenham, Arsene Wenger’s options of improving in this area are starting to run out. Carvalho represents a youthful, but quality option at the heart of the midfield, and his quality has seen him attract interest from several on the best clubs in Europe.

The report in Record suggests Manchester United, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Valencia all interested in the midfielder.

A fee of around £30million is likely to be accepted, and considering his age and potential, this would represent a calculated investment that could reap rewards.
